Being a parent takes a large toll on one's life. A mental toll, an emotional toll, and a physical toll. Being a mother of three is a full time job and then some...especially if you're dealing with my brother David, my sister Melinda, and myself. A gentleman by the name of Peter Ustinov said it best. "parents are the bones on which children sharpen their teeth."
My family was very fortunate to have such a wonderful woman in our lives. Someone who took the honor of being a parent, and gave it her all. Now today, we celebrate how amazing she was. I think I speak for my siblings and I when I say, Thank you Mom. Thank you for being there every single day. Whether it was to blow gently on our scrapes and our cuts, pushing us to excel in our studies, always taking care of us while we were sick, saving the day and getting us out of trouble, or giving us a well deserved spanking with your chanclas. Your impact on our lives is monumental. We couldn't have succeeded without you. Our successes are your successes mom.
Our mom loved us so very much, and I think one of her greatest struggles was watching us finally leave the nest to pursue our individual lives. This left her sometimes feeling like her babies didn't need her anymore. She just loved being around us so much. But Mommy, we always needed you, there wasn't a day that passed by where your love didn't touch us. In your eyes, there was nothing that we couldn't do. The one thing I'll miss the most, is the sound of your voice telling me how proud of me you were. I promise you that we will continue to make you proud.
Our mother was taken from us too soon. One thing that hurts the most, is that I've been able to enjoy my mom for only 28 years, and I was really looking forward to her being a mother and grandmother for many years to come. Knowing that my son will not remember the time spent with his Grandma really breaks my heart. And though he will not remember the special times he's spent with her over his first year of life, I will ensure that he does know how special his grandma is, and how our family wouldn't have been a family without mom. He will know that, and that gives me great comfort.
Carmen Martinez wasn't just a wonderful mom, but a loving wife as well. She loved my father very much. Observing my mother and father together has meant the world to me. Every relationship has its ups and downs, and there are countless obstacles that a couple can encounter in 35 years of being together. Ive seen my parents overcome those countless obstacles over my lifetime, and im so proud of both of them.
When I think about my memories of my mom, I remember how selfless she was, how much she made us laugh, and how much she's loved us all. What we once enjoyed, we will never lose. All that we love deeply, becomes a part of us, forever. You'll always be a part of us mom. I love you so much.

Mom ever since i can remember, you have been the biggest part of me and you always will be, you've always been there when i needed you and because of you i am who i am today. I hope i made you proud because that was always important to me. I miss you so much and i don't know how i'm gonna make it without you but i know that i have to continue to do what you always fought for and that's keeping our family together. I promise to always honor you and take care of everyone and everything you built. I know you're in Heaven now watching and i want you to know i will always love you and always cherish every memory we shared. I realize that you had to go now, you were tired and you deserve to be at peace now, so mommy you rest now, you rest..... and always know that you were and always will be my mother, my queen and being your son will always be my greatest accomplishment. Thankyou mommy for being my everything.... I love you Always and Forever
