Obituary of Gladys Camacho
Gladys Diaz Escobar Camacho, age 85, of Bridgeport, passed away into the peaceful presence of The Lord on Monday, October 30, 2012. Born in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Gladys arrived in Bridgeport, CT in 1947 were she met and was married to Primitivo Camacho for sixty-three years. She is predeceased by her sons, Wilfred and Richard Camacho and survived by her beloved husband Primitivo, Gladys Soto, daughter, and her husband, John Soto of Orange, CT. Also her siblings, Gloria Doolan, of Bridgeport, Sara Morales, Samuel Diaz Sr. of Puerto Rico, Isaac Diaz of Florida, Isaias Diaz of Greenwich, CT and Angelita Diaz of NJ, in addition to her step-mother Marta Diaz, of Puerto Rico. Grandma Camacho will be painfully missed by her granddaughters, grandson, her 8 great grandchildren, and her many nephews and nieces and others who considered her like a "grandma". Gladys enjoyed a full and healthy life until she was afflicted with Alzheimer's disease and failing health two years ago. Gladys was an active member of the Good Shepherd Christian Church of Bridgeport for over forty- five years. She will always be remembered for her faithful participation in the church "pro-templo" fundraisers, her singing and her amazing cooking and catering talents, enjoyed throughout her community. Gladys with her husband, owned and operated "Dolly's Candy Store " and "Cabo Rojo Fruits and Vegetables" in the early 1960's. She later worked at Dunkin Donuts winning her " "Top Honors" in their fundraising efforts. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she worked as a Nutrition Site Manager for with the Salvation Army Elderly Nutrition program in Bridgeport. She was a member of the Remesa East and Sunset Shores Adult Day Center. Gladys along with her husband returned to her native Puerto Rico "Isla del Encanto", after retirement, enjoying the beautiful winters surrounded by family and friends. A special thank you is extended to Gladys's care team which included her doctors, especially Dr. Irwine Feinzieg, the staff at Sunset Shores, and her longtime loving caregiving companions, Ivette Caceras, Maria Santos, and Marina Taveras. All Services will be on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012, at 10:00 am at Trinity Baptist Church, 300 North Benson Road, Fairfield, CT with the Rev.David DeVries officiating. Burial in Mountain Grove Cemetery-Easton. In lieu flowers, contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association and or Good Shepherd Christian Church, Missions program 725 Hancock Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06605.
