el Dios de toda misericordia y padre de todo consuelo,el que nos consuela

Sra. Pomales was a mentor to me when I was a novice teacher. She gave me great advice, gave me materials and lent me lunch money(for real). We worked together on a cable TV program— a tri-lingual production of Los Tres Reyes Magos— and other projects. She was a hero! And her laugh... so wonderful!
Did you know she went to jail? Not because she was a bad person! No! Because she was a brave and good person who fought for the rights of teachers. So great!! As a young man I thought, “Wow, this sweet abuelita figure was undaunted in the face of the authorities.”
Now I am Superintendent of Schools in Shelton and I still admire her! I will miss her. But she lives on as an example!
I pray for her!

Who can ever forget this incredible woman? My mind goes back to the first group of Latino women who became bilingual teachers in the early 70s. Bilingual teachers department meetings and parties. Fairfield university classes and studying for their state certification in English. Marta Pomales. Maria Perez Mirene Gomez. Maria Matilde Ridriguez And my Mamita Ruth Rams. I was only ten but forever impacted by their spirit and passion for children Super heroes in my book. Super heroes for the millions of immigrant children who they taught here in Bpt District. Trail Blazers. Later in 1985, Teaching under her mentorship at Multicultural Magnet was another life changing experience.
May God continue filling this great family with the joy and laughter of Marta. Her legacy lives on.
