Obituary of Amelia Falcon

Amelia Falcon, 83, died on Sunday, April 17, 2016 in her Bridgeport home, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Amelia, better known as Meyita, was born June 15, 1932 in Bayamon, PR to Jose and Delfina Rivera. She was the proud big sister to eight younger siblings – Pepo, Mikey, Georgie, Quique, Esther, Carmin, Eloina, and Lucy. She is preceded in death by Pepo and Georgie. At 16, she followed her father to Bronx, NY in search of the American Dream. Working in a pocketbook factory, she helped him reunite their family. She haltingly learned English one “Ham and Egg” sandwich at a time. (It was the only thing she knew how to say!) This determination, formidable strength, enduring spirit and most importantly, her dedication to family would follow her throughout her entire life. Meyita married Angel Falcon in 1955. He preceded her death in 1998. She is survived by her four children from this union: son, Julio Falcon and wife Judy of Trumbull, and daughters: Evelyn Bashkin and husband Rob of West Haven, Carmen Falcon and husband Felix of Bridgeport, and Wilma Lopez of Bridgeport. Meyita leaves her beloved life partner, Jose Falcon, at home - where things may be a little quieter now but where she will forever be missed. Meyita is also survived by 9 beautiful grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many friends who brought great joy to her later years with their visits. Before her many illnesses kept her confined to a bed, Meyita lived a life full of music, laughter and love. With a spring in her step, she especially loved celebrating the holidays “parandiando” (caroling) with family friends. Though we will miss her dearly, it brings us great peace knowing she is free from her physical burdens and now in a wonderful place where she will be socializing and dancing like before. Please join us in celebrating Meyita’s beautiful life. Calling hours are on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, (Peaceful Light Funeral Home), 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. The Funeral Service will commence the following day 10:00am at the Funeraria Luz de Paz. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Ave, Bridgeport, CT.
