Obituary of Jose Aponte

Jose Aponte, age 84, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Northbridge Health Care Center, Bridgeport. He was the beloved husband of Engracia Aponte. Jose was born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico; son of the late Tomaso Matos and Josefa Negron. He was employed by City of Bridgeport for many years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed spending time fishing at Seaside Park in Bridgeport and was an avid Mets fan. Jose is the loving father of Josephine (Fred) Ramos, Jose Aponte, Jr., Edwin (Laura) Aponte, Migdalia Colon (Nelson Medina), Victor(Cherlyn)Aponte , and Alex (Iris) Aponte; the adoring grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and the brother of 3 sisters and 2 brothers in Puerto Rico. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and other family members who will sorely miss him. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at the Funeraria Luz de Paz (Peaceful Light Funeral Home) 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport from 3 pm to 6 pm. A funeral service is scheduled to take place on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. His burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
