Obituary of Gregorio Manuel Pacheco

Gregorio Manuel Pacheco, age 77, of Bridgeport, unexpectedly passed away in his home on Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico on May 29, 1938, he had been a resident of Bridgeport for more than fifty years. He served in the US Army after which he worked for ACME Sheer in Bridgeport. He was devoted to the sport of baseball since early on. Gregorio truly believed in our youth and the positive influences of sports on our young people. This belief led him to become involved in the Hispanic Bridgeport Little League for several decades. Due to his dedication to the youth of Bridgeport, the Christian Brotherhood League was later renamed the Gregorio Pacheco League. His accomplishments were not limited to just Bridgeport as he was exalted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cabo Rojo. Gregorio continued his passion for the sport by participating on a sports radio program for the former La Grande Radio Station (Radio Cumbre). Until recent, he co-hosted in Spanish the Bridgeport Bluefish games. He is survived by his two daughters Denorah Pacheco-Irby and Zoraida Thornton, grandson Timothy Thornton II, son-in-laws Curtis Irby and Timothy Thornton. Siblings include Juanita Pacheco, Carmen Villanueva and the late Lavinia Pacheco. Nieces and nephews Marlin Martinez, Juanita Villanueva, Clara Ivette Vidal, Lavinia Camacho, Luis Vidal and the late William Camacho. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 p.m. from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz, (Peaceful Light Funeral Home), 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport, CT. Funeral Services have been scheduled for Wednesday, October 14, 2015 starting at the Funeral Home at 9:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT.
