Obituary of Ruth Steeves
On Thursday January 5, 2012, Ruth Ohlin Steeves, handmaiden of the Lord, finished the race, fought the good fight and received her crown of glory. Ruth will be sorely missed by all who knew her but we rejoice in knowing she heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant". Ruth was one of seven children born to Paul and Ruth Ohlin in Bridgeport. Ruth gave her life to Jesus at an early age and continued to serve him faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, Bible Study teacher, Nursery School director, VBS director and teacher, GMG and Pioneer Girls leader, Choir member and Royal Family Kids' Camp director. Ruth spoke fluently the language of love. Jesus was the source of this love that flowed through Ruth to bless the lives of countless adults and children. She was an amazing wife, self-less mother, caring sister, inspirational teacher, wise counselor, strategic mentor, gifted administrator and a really fun gramma. Ruth is survived by her adoring husband of 58 years, Harold; her children Debbie and Rev. Mike Hawkins, David and Sharon Steeves, and Rev. Douglas and Liz Steeves. She helped raise 11 grandchildren who faithfully surrounded her with laughter, love and tears throughout her battle with cancer. Please join the family for a celebration of Ruth's life Saturday January 14, 2012 at Black Rock Congregational Church, 3685 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield, CT where she and Harold were members for 30 years. All are welcome to greet the family at 10:00 am prior to the service that will begin at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a ministry Ruth was passionate about, Black Rock Church's Royal Family Kids Camp that brings the message of hope and faith to foster children.
