Obituary
Obituary of Pedro Juan Mestre
Pedro Juan Mestre, age 85, of Stratford, passed away into the Glorious presence of the Lord on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Bridgeport Hospital while surrounded by his loving family. Pedro was born in Ciales, Puerto Rico to the late Pedro J. Mestre and the late Maria Pagan, but had relocated to the Bridgeport area since the 1940's. Pedro loved music, he enjoyed playing the guitar and variations of the guitar of such like Cuatro. The talent went beyond what most could do as Pedro was left handed so he learned how to play a right handed guitar upside down. He loved to play classic guitar while he listened to Trio music and he enjoyed playing his guitar with local musicians such the Guaracheros. He also wrote many songs to the delight of his loving wife and actually one song titled Triste Ilusion was made and produced professionally and won him an award which he was so proud of. He was the padrino for the Puerto Rican Parade of Fairfield county in 2006. He was honored in 2012 with a glass plaque that read "Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bridgeport, Inc. presents Pedro Mestre, Treasurer and one of the Founders of the Spanish Merchants Association of Bridgeport, Inc. with a Lifetime Achievement award for your contribution to the progress of the Hispanic Community". He was an active partner of the Caribe Royal Corp. but probably one of the main things Pedro was known for is having been the owner of Almacenes Galos which was on East Main Street, Bridgeport for over 30 years. Truly a man of honor, integrity, humility and a unique sense of humor. Pedro is the loving husband of Antonia Mestre of Stratford. In addition to his wife, Pedro is survived by his sons David Mestre, Orlando Mestre, Daniel A. Mestre and Ricardo Mestre; his brothers Miguel Mestre and Pedro M. Mestre, Julio Gonzalez, Franco Mestre and Alfredo Mestre; his sisters Esther Ortiz, Norma Mestre, Nydia Mestre, Myrna Mestre, Teresita Mestre, Genny Mestre, Gloria Rivera and Haydee Gonzalez; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends whom will dearly miss him; In addition to his parents Pedro was predeceased by his brother the late Reyes Pagan.
