Obituary of Eufemia Gonzalez

Eufemia Gonzalez, age 83 of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico; daughter of the late Fermin Rios and Maria Mercedes Ruiz prior to relocating to the Bridgeport area many years ago. Though Eufemia worked as a piece worker for many years, her true passion lied with helping others. She was one of the first volunteers to feed and serve the elderly community in Bridgeport. Eufemia is the loving mother of Carmen M. Barrios (Juan A. Barrios Jr.), Antonio Gonzalez Jr. (Ana A. Gonzalez), and Ramon Gonzalez (Lidzet Gonzalez); the adoring grandmother of Veronica Barrios (Anthony Barrios), Roberto Barrios, Amanda Gonzalez, Mariana Gonzalez, and Elyssa Gonzalez; and the great grandmother of Marcus Mendez, Erick Mendez, and Alyvia Barrios. She is also survived by her siblings Arcadio Rios(Nancy Skinner-Rios)and Ermelinda Ruiz; many nieces, nephews, friends and other family members who will miss her dearly. She was predeceased in death by her brothers Augustine Rios, Claudio Rios, Bruno Rios, and great grandson Anthony G. Barrios. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Funeraria Luz de Paz (Peaceful Light Funeral Home) 426 E. Washington Ave., Bridgeport from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, June 2, 2016 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, Bridgeport. Her burial will follow at Mt. Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport.
