Obituary of Ulises Cuevas

Ulises Cuevas, age 83, of Bridgeport died Thursday, June 2, 2011 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born July 28, 1927 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Segundo Cuevas and the late Carmen Gonzalez; Ulises is a Korean War Veteran who proudly served in the US Army 3rd infantry division. He was very proud of his Puerto Rican heritage and loved his beloved Isla del Encanto. Ulises enjoyed listening to traditional folk songs and loved playing his cuatro. He is survived by his children Iris Torres and her husband Carlos of Beacon Falls, Elpidia Viallanueva and her husband Felix of Bridgeport; Avisient Cuevas of Bridgeport, Ulises Cuevas and his wife Miryam of Bridgeport, Uriol Cuevas and his wife Annie fo Stratford, Walter Cuevas and wife Maria of New York, William cuevas and his wife Nilsa of Bridgeport, Wilson Cuevas and his wife Gladys of Bridgeport, Elizabeth Baker and her husband Bruce of Stratford; 13 grandchildren Inez Villanueva, Taris Velez, Erica Vasquez, Joshua Cuevas, Francesca Cuevas, Samuel Villanueva, Nina Coloma, Ariel Cuevas, Jeanice Cuevas, Christina Cuevas, William Cuevas, Tyler Baker and Gabriel Cuevas; 8 great grandchildren Ricky Maldonado, Daniel Villanueva, Jada Cuevas, Samaya Villanueva, Giovanni Rodriguez, Damien Villanueva, Evelyn Coloma and Isabella Cuevas; siblings, Mercedes Cuevas of Puerto Rico, Simon Cuevas of Puerto Rico, David Cuevas of Puerto Rico, Uriol Cuevas of Bridgeport and Alvitania Acosta of Puerto Rico; and a host of other relatives and friends who will sorely miss him. Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 from 7-9 P.M. at the Funeraria Luz de Paz (La Funeraria de NUESTRO Pueblo), 426 E.
