The day that we visited Jose the decision to remove the respirator had been made. The nurse turned off the medication that was making Jose sleep so that he could at least communicate with us. He looked around the room and saw it filled with family. Each person stepped up to Jose and expressed their love to him. But when it was my turn I simply asked if he wanted bacalao. He smiled broadly which lit up the room and eased everyone's hearts. He was doing fine and I knew we all would be too.
Here's to you Jose - we will miss you and you know that we will always love you!
